Well, well, well, look who’s back! I know I have been slightly MIA on posts lately but I thought this would be a good reason to make a come back. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, I wanted to highlight a grand donation that takes a ton of courage.
For the second time in her life, Summer McDonnell decided to donate the majority of her hair to Locks of Love. The requirement length to donate a medium sized wig is six inches and 10 inches for a large one. She was able to donate one of each for a total of 16 inches. It only took four snippings (more like sawings because her hair is so thick!) for her hair to lay on a table instead of on her back. Before the appointment earlier this month she joked that she needed it cut so that she wouldn’t sit on it anymore, or get strangled by it in her sleep. We did say that it would make a nice scarf for the winter time (we were able to wrap it around her neck two and a half times!).
Two and a half years ago she donated 10 inches and hasn’t had a hair cut since. She says after the initial 10 inches she knew this is something she’d like to do again. “Once I saw how fast it grew back I knew I wanted to do it again,” she said. “I’d still like to donate at least once more.”
Summer made the donation through Shakti Salon in Kingston. She was happy with her decision and excited to shed some of the weight this hair had. “I was just really happy,” she said. “Happy to be helping someone else and happy to just get rid of the hair. There was just too much of it. It was almost becoming unmanageable.”
If you’re looking to donate like Summer did, visit Pantene or Locks of Love to learn more about the requirements and how to’s. You can donate on your own or donate through a salon like Summer did. Either way you’re supporting a great cause. According to the Pantene website, more than 500,000 ponytails have been donated and that number is only growing!
We had to take some snapshots before the cutting took place!
The initial cut! The stylist had to split Summer’s hair into two sections and then split both into six and 10 inch sections in order to keep the donations separate.
Ta-da! 16 inches later!
Raviya Printed Tunic Dotti Cover Up La Blanca Printed Tunic
After my trip to the Bahamas the only thing on my mind is beachwear. I’ve been spending an ungodly amount of time online shopping for all things Bahamian – bathing suits, sandals, beach bags and cover ups.
I have a Roxy cover up that I’ve been using for years now and I think it is time for something new, a change. So many of the people I saw on the beach had printed, loose tunic cover ups and that is something I need in my life. Macy’s has a great selection of tunic cover ups and more than a few of them caught my eye. I’m looking for something that is light weight but not completely sheer – I want it to actually cover me up. I’m also looking for something with some sort of sleeve, short or long, just something other than a tank top.
So, after browsing through Macy’s selection a handful of times I’ve found my top three. Now comes the hard part of choosing which one – in a perfect world I would take them all. They are all similarly priced and similarly styled. I THINK I am leaning toward the black Dotti cover up because I think it would last longer and I wouldn’t get sick of it as fast as a print. So, we will see what happens this weekend when I take to Macy’s and browse their in store selection and see what I can find.
Do any of you have cover ups you love? Suggestions on other places I should look?
While I am probably one of the only girls (with a boyfriend) to not flip my lid for the mid-February holiday, I did stumble across a few dresses at Forever 21 that my college girl budget adores. While me and the bf aren’t doing anything fancy for the Hallmark holiday, some Valley girls out there are. If you’re looking for a dress to fulfill the weekend’s festivities I suggest checking out Forever 21. Their Love21 label has pages of cute dresses to browse through online and I found a few that might interest your sweetheart. They can all easily be dressed up or dressed down and require minimal accessories. Add a simple statement necklace and a pair of booties or heels and you’ll be ready for any Valentine’s Day treat.

I’m sure I’m not the only one ready for springtime. After having 10+ inches of snow fall through my hometown yesterday I am ready to store away the shovels and car brushes and cruise with the windows down. I am also completely ready to take a break from my black winter parka and make room for some new coat pieces to my wardrobe.
I fell madly in love with a few collarless jackets at ASOS. I think they would all make great additions to my spring wardrobe collection, especially for those extra cold mornings. They are also all greatly affordable for a coat – PLUS ASOS offers a student discount so break out those student IDs and get shopping!
I have been searching for a new pair of eyeglasses for months. I just could not seem to find the perfect style. I own two pairs, a Juicy Couture pair that I’ve had FOREVER, but still love, and a GUESS pair that I got at the start of college. I’m just kind of over both pairs. Not that I don’t like them anymore just that I need something new. The problem for me is that I have small bridge at the top of my nose so frames without nose pads always seem to fall down on me.
BUT, I think I may have found a pair that will work, sans the nose pads. They are Calvin Klein, a little different then the two pairs that I own and I think I’m going to splurge. I wear glasses pretty much everyday so I like to mix things up a bit and I think these are just the pair to help me do so. The glasses below are my top three choices. I have a favorite but I want to know what you guys think! Leave me comments with the pair that you think screams Ellen the most!
